Maun International Arts Festival in Maun
Maun International Arts Festival brings visual art, craft, film, music and spoken-word programming to Maun, the small town that serves as Botswana's main gateway to the Okavango Delta. Usually scheduled for October or November, before the delta's rainy season builds, it gives a tourism-driven town a home-grown creative event that draws local artists, safari-industry residents and travelers passing through en route to the wetlands.
Maun exists largely because of tourism: it is the small, dusty airstrip town through which almost every visitor to the Okavango Delta passes on the way to a mokoro trip or a bush camp, and for most of the year its identity is built around safaris rather than the arts.
