Salvador Carnival in Salvador
Salvador's Carnival replaces a stadium parade with trio eletrico trucks, mobile stages stacked with speakers that crawl along oceanfront street circuits while crowds dance alongside for hours at a time. Axe and samba-reggae, both Bahian in origin, dominate the sound, while blocos afro and afoxes bring Afro-Brazilian percussion and ceremony directly into the street party.
Salvador Carnival matters because it centers Bahia's Black musical power and turns public space into one of the world's great street celebrations.
