Sao Paulo Carnival in São Paulo

Six hundred kilometers from Rio, Sao Paulo stages a Carnival built around its own Sambodromo do Anhembi and its own samba schools, organized under the LIGASP league rather than Rio's competing bodies. Parades run through the night as schools compete for promotion into the following year's top division, while street blocos fill the city's parks and avenues with brass bands and costumed crowds well beyond the official venue.

Sao Paulo runs its own Carnival at the Sambodromo do Anhembi, a parade avenue designed by Oscar Niemeyer that has nothing to do with Rio's more famous version six hundred kilometers south.
