A colonial town of cobblestone streets and baroque churches in Minas Gerais hosts one of Brazil's most influential discovery festivals each January, where directors later celebrated at Cannes first showed their work to Tiradentes audiences and critics. Running since 1998, the Mostra has become the key launching ground for the low-budget, formally adventurous wave critics call Novo Cinema Brasileiro.
Mostra de Cinema de Tiradentes has run since 1998 in one of Minas Gerais' best-preserved colonial towns, turning a cluster of eighteenth-century baroque churches and cobblestone streets into a January staging ground for Brazil's most independent film production.
