BVI Emancipation Festival, also called August Festival, is the British Virgin Islands' largest annual celebration, running across the first Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of August as official public holidays. Centered on Road Town, Tortola, but marked territory-wide, it commemorates the 1834 abolition of slavery in the British Caribbean with parades, music competitions, and a weeks-long lead-up of cultural events.

Most of the Caribbean's carnival calendar runs on the Catholic liturgical clock, staged in the weeks before Lent.
