Kapana Fest in Plovdiv

A twice-yearly street festival held in Plovdiv's Kapana creative district, turning its narrow pedestrian lanes into a temporary market of handmade crafts, food stalls, live music and open-air film screenings. Growing directly out of Kapana's designation as Bulgaria's first creative-industries district, the festival runs a smaller spring edition and a larger September edition, both drawing on the shops and studios that already occupy the neighborhood year-round.

Kapana's transformation from a run-down commercial quarter into Plovdiv's designated creative district did not happen by accident: city planners deliberately rezoned and rebranded the area as Bulgaria's first creative-industries district, part of a wider urban regeneration push tied to Plovdiv's years as European Capital of Culture, and the twice-yearly festival that shares the neighborhood's name grew directly out of that project.
