Semaine Nationale de la Culture in Bobo-Dioulasso
The Semaine Nationale de la Culture is Burkina Faso's biennial, state-backed national culture week held in Bobo-Dioulasso, bringing regional delegations, exhibitions, crafts, music and performance together under one program since becoming permanently based there in 1990. It functions as a condensed national cultural showcase rather than a single-genre festival.
Burkina Faso's Semaine Nationale de la Culture traces back to a nearly 2,000-artist gathering staged in Ouagadougou in late 1983, months after the Sankara-led revolution, and only became the biennial, Bobo-Dioulasso-based event known today from its fifth edition in 1990 onward.
