FESTICAL'B in Ouagadougou
FESTICAL'B (Festival de la Calebasse du Burkina Faso) is a compact, two-day Ouagadougou event built entirely around the calabash gourd as craft object, musical instrument and ecological symbol. Held over two days in February under committee president Gafarie Azonsou, it combines maker stalls, demonstrations and a stated zero-plastic ambition, expecting more than 5,000 visitors.
A calabash gourd can be a food bowl, a percussion instrument, a ladle or a ritual object depending on which Burkinabe community is holding it, and FESTICAL'B exists to put that range on display in one place.
