Festival Internacional de Teatro do Mindelo Mindelact in Mindelo

Founded in 1995 as an initiative of Mindelo's Portuguese Cultural Centre with only local Sao Vicente and Santo Antao groups, the Mindelact theatre festival internationalised by 1997 through a partnership with Portugal's Cena Lusofona, and across three decades of editions has drawn theatre groups from as many as twelve countries. It is now widely regarded as the principal theatrical event of both Cabo Verde and the entire Lusophone African world.

Mindelact began modestly in 1995 as an initiative of the theatrical nucleus of the Portuguese Cultural Centre in Mindelo, with its first edition limited to theatre groups from Sao Vicente and Santo Antao islands alone, a genuinely local starting point for what would become Cabo Verde's most significant theatrical institution.
