URDI Sal Crafts and Design Fair in Santa Maria/Praça Manuel Antonio
URDI, whose name comes from the Portuguese verb urdir, to weave, is Cabo Verde's national handicrafts and design fair, decentralised to Sal island for the first time after ten editions in Sao Vicente, staged in Santa Maria's Praca Manuel Antonio from March 25 to 29 under the motto Valorizar o que e nosso. Opened by Minister of Culture Augusto Veiga, the five-day event combines craft exhibition and sale with workshops, live demonstrations and evening shows and DJ performances.
URDI, the Cape Verdean Handicrafts and Design Fair, takes its name from the Portuguese verb urdir, to weave, a deliberate metaphor for the event's mission of weaving together craft traditions from across Cabo Verde's scattered islands into one shared showcase.
