Phnom Penh Sankranta in Phnom Penh
Nokor Sankranta is Phnom Penh City Hall's organized edition of Khmer New Year, centered on Wat Phnom and spreading to the riverside walking street, Wat Botum Park, and several city markets. Expect classical dance, martial arts shows, folk games and a charity cake-making drive whose output goes to soldiers and displaced families, all layered over the household rituals of Choul Chnam Thmey: temple visits, sand-mound building and water poured over elders' hands and Buddha statues.
Sankranta matters because it renews family, faith and community after the harvest, marking the year through blessing, play and respect.
