Sawa Cultural Week in Douala
Sawa Cultural Week centers on the Ngondo Festival, the Sawa coastal peoples' annual water-based celebration held in Douala, Cameroon during the first week of December since its inaugural 1949 edition. The week combines a touring caravan through traditional Sawa districts, traditional wrestling, a crafts and commercial fair, a beauty pageant, and a sacred river rite on the Wouri.
Each year, during the first week of December, Douala's Sawa coastal communities mark the Ngondo Festival, a water-centered celebration that has run continuously since its inaugural edition in 1949.
