Carassauga Festival in Mississauga

Carassauga has run each May in Mississauga since 1985, spreading dozens of cultural pavilions across community and recreation centres citywide, each one representing a different country's food, dance, music, and crafts. Founded after a challenge from then-mayor Hazel McCallion, it uses a festival-wide shuttle service to connect venues and remains one of the largest volunteer-run multicultural festivals in Canada.

Carassauga began in Mississauga in 1985 after then-mayor Hazel McCallion challenged local ethnic community organizations to create a festival that would reflect the city's growing diversity, and it has run every May since as one of the largest multicultural festivals in Canada.
