Montreal International Jazz Festival in Montreal
A festival Guinness World Records has ranked as the largest jazz festival anywhere fills Montreal's Quartier des Spectacles with free outdoor stages and closed streets each summer. Founded in 1980 by concert promoters Alain Simard, Andre Menard and Denis Wolff, it now mixes free street stages with ticketed indoor shows across roughly ten days in late June and early July, spanning jazz, blues, funk and world music.
Montreal shuts down several downtown blocks every summer to build the Quartier des Spectacles into a temporary outdoor concert district, and that transformation is the core of the Montreal International Jazz Festival, founded in 1980 by concert promoters Alain Simard, Andre Menard and Denis Wolff.
