The story

Montreal Pride in Montreal

Fierte Montreal grew out of the earlier Divers/Cite celebration and became the city's official Pride organization in 2007, running a multi-day August festival that culminates in a parade along Boulevard Rene-Levesque drawing crowds estimated in the hundreds of thousands. Floats carrying community groups, sponsors and drag performers move past dense crowds packed along the curb, with sound trucks keeping the street dancing between each group's pass.

Fierte Montreal traces its roots to Divers/Cite, the Pride celebration that ran through the Village from 1993, and took its current name and organizational structure in 2007 when a new nonprofit assumed responsibility for the parade and festival.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Montreal's Pride stands out for its bilingual, francophone-forward programming, a legacy of hosting both World Pride in 2006 and Canada Pride in 2017 that pushed its production values and attendance well past a typical city parade

02

The mystery stays covered

The route through downtown's dense core means the crowd experience is as much about the packed sidewalks and balconies as the floats themselves, with neighbors leaning out of apartment windows above the barricades

03

The city starts moving

A quieter Community Day earlier in the week, built around panels and a wellness fair in Parc Emilie-Gamelin, gives visitors who want less noise a way into the celebration before the parade's scale and volume take over
