Tokna Massana Festival in Bongor

Tokna Massana is the popular name for the Festival international des arts et de la culture massa, a biennial cross-border gathering of the Massa people of the Logone River valley, shared between Cameroon and Chad. First held in Yaounde in 2003, the festival rotates between Massa communities in both countries, and its thirteenth edition was staged in April 2026 in Bongor, in Chad's Mayo-Kebbi region.

Along the Logone River, which marks much of the border between Cameroon and Chad, the Massa people have farmed for centuries as a paleo-Sudanic community whose land was split by a colonial-era boundary line.
