Fiesta del Nazareno de Caguach in Caguach/Chiloe
Each August, a small wooden image of Jesus Nazareno on the tiny island of Caguach draws one of southern Chile's largest pilgrimages, with pilgrims arriving by boat from across Chiloe's inland sea. Tens of thousands can visit an island of only a few hundred residents, sleeping in tents and borrowed rooms while the days revolve around vigils, processions and a devotion tradition dating back over two centuries.
