Minga Chilota in Chiloe
The minga is Chiloe's tradition of collective labor, most famously the tiraje de casa, in which an entire wooden house is dragged intact to a new site by a team of oxen with the whole community pitching in. It closes with a shared curanto meal and music, but unlike a festival, it happens only when there is an actual house or task to move, not on a fixed date.
The minga is one of Chiloe's oldest surviving customs, a form of collective labor rooted in the pre-Columbian period and still practiced, though less often than in past generations, across the archipelago's rural communities.
