Festival de la Independencia de Talca in Talca
Talca's Fiesta de la Independencia, held each February at Parque Rio Claro, marks the city's specific role in Chilean history, the independence act was signed there on 12 February 1818, and has grown since its 2010 launch into the largest free summer festival in the Maule region. The multi-day program mixes major national and international concerts with an entrepreneurs' fair, food vendors and family entertainment.
Talca holds a specific claim in Chilean independence history: the country's Acta de Independencia was signed there on 12 February 1818, and the modern Fiesta de la Independencia, launched in 2010 under then-mayor Juan Castro Prieto, was built directly around that date to reconnect the city with its role in national history rather than functioning as a generic summer concert series.
