Pingyao International Film Festival in Pingyao
Launched in 2017 by director Jia Zhangke and festival programmer Marco Müller, the Pingyao International Film Festival screens independent and emerging-director cinema, with a deliberate focus on Asia, Eastern Europe, Latin America, and Africa, inside a converted former diesel engine factory within Pingyao's UNESCO-listed walled old town each autumn.
A former state-owned diesel engine factory inside Pingyao's UNESCO-listed walled old town was converted into the Pingyao Festival Palace, the main venue for a film festival launched in October 2017 by director Jia Zhangke together with veteran festival programmer Marco Müller, giving the event an industrial-heritage venue as distinctive as its founders' pedigree.
