The story

Shanghai Tourism Festival in Shanghai

Established in 1990, the Shanghai Tourism Festival runs from mid-September into early October, opening with a Grand Parade of floats along Huaihai Road and featuring a separate Huangpu River cruise ship parade with lights and fireworks. Since 2000 it has incorporated the Shanghai International Music Fireworks Festival, pairing pyrotechnics with live music for a coordinated audiovisual finale.

Established in 1990, the Shanghai Tourism Festival opens each year with a Grand Parade along Huaihai Road, colorful floats moving through central streets including Huangpi Road, South Chongqing Road, and Maoming Road starting around 7:30 in the evening, a spectacle that has become the festival's signature image over more than three decades of continuous staging.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Few city tourism festivals stage three distinct large-scale public spectacles, a street float parade, a river cruise ship parade, and a dedicated music-and-fireworks finale, within a single event window rather than building around one signature moment

02

The mystery stays covered

Over three decades of continuous staging since 1990 gives the festival institutional longevity among Chinese city-level tourism events

03

The city starts moving

Its proximity to National Day Golden Week means the festival captures both dedicated attendees and the broader domestic travel surge already moving through Shanghai during that period
