The story

Green Film Festival Barichara in Barichara

Created in 2011 by actors Toto Vega and Norida Rodriguez to build environmental awareness through film, Festiver has grown into a long-running, entirely free festival held in Barichara, a Santander plateau town declared a National Monument. Programming pairs open-air and indoor screenings of Colombian and international environmental films with training workshops for children, young people and adults.

Festiver, Barichara's green film festival, was created in 2011 by actors Toto Vega and Norida Rodriguez with an explicit environmental mission: using cinema and audiovisual media specifically to build awareness and sensitivity around environmental care and natural-resource stewardship, rather than showcasing film as an art form in isolation from its themes.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Few film festivals are built around an explicit environmental-education mission rather than film appreciation for its own sake, using cinema specifically as a tool to build awareness of natural-resource stewardship

02

The mystery stays covered

Its setting in Barichara, a plateau town declared a National Monument and widely regarded as Colombia's prettiest small town, gives the festival's environmental theme a visibly reinforcing backdrop of preserved colonial architecture and landscape

03

The city starts moving

Free admission across the entire programme, including both open-air and indoor screenings plus training workshops, reflects a deliberate accessibility choice distinguishing it from ticketed environmental or documentary festivals elsewhere
