The story

Cali International Film Festival in Cali

Founded in 2009 by filmmaker Luis Ospina, FICCALI grew out of the influential Cali Group of directors and continues a local film tradition dating to Colombia's first feature film in 1921. Screenings, talks and a producers' market run each November across venues including Museo La Tertulia and Universidad del Valle, connecting the festival directly to Cali's own cinematic history.

FICCALI exists because a filmmaker went looking for his own city's cinematic memory: Luis Ospina, part of the influential Grupo de Cali that also included Andres Caicedo, Ramiro Arbelaez and Carlos Mayolo, returned to Cali in the early 2000s and, together with collaborators, created a festival in 2009 to promote both Cali's own film production and Colombian cinema internationally, holding its first edition in November of that year.
