Mawlid / Prophet's Birthday Comoros

Mawlid an-Nabi marks the Prophet Muhammad's birth on the twelfth of Rabi al-Awwal and is an official nationwide holiday in overwhelmingly Muslim Comoros. Offices and schools close while mosques across Moroni, Anjouan, and Moheli host recitations, devotional chanting, and communal prayer. There is no public parade or ticketed event to attend; the observance unfolds quietly through mosque gatherings, family visits, and shared meals rather than street spectacle.

Mawlid an-Nabi, the commemoration of the Prophet Muhammad's birth on the twelfth day of Rabi al-Awwal, is one of the few religious dates observed nationwide as an official holiday in Comoros, a country where more than ninety-eight percent of the population is Sunni Muslim.
