Festival Bilili BD in Institut Francais du Congo
Bilili BD gathers comics artists, animators and game designers from across the Congo Basin at the Institut francais du Congo each December, pairing exhibitions and signings with master classes, editor meetings and a cosplay contest. Founded in 2016 by the Congolese cartoonist known as Elyon's, the festival is anchored at the Institut francais in Brazzaville, with editions that have also extended to Pointe-Noire, and has grown to draw guests from Francophone publishing houses in Europe.
Comics culture in Central Africa rarely gets a dedicated stage, which is part of why Bilili BD, founded in Brazzaville in 2016 by the cartoonist known as Elyon's and backed by the Institut francais du Congo, has grown into one of the region's more distinctive cultural fixtures.
