The story

Brazzaville Theatre and Storytelling Festival in Institut Francais/Brazzaville

Festival Matsina sur scene is an annual international theatre festival staged at the Institut Francais du Congo in Brazzaville, organized by Association Noe culture together with the institute. Its 21st edition ran December 13 to 22, 2024 under the theme La releve, bringing together theatre artists from Benin, France, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Switzerland and Congo for writing residencies, workshops, staged readings and performances.

Each December, the Institut Francais du Congo in Brazzaville becomes the center of francophone theatre in Central Africa as it hosts Festival Matsina sur scene, an international theatre festival organized by the cultural association Noe culture in partnership with the institute.

The part that makes it specific.

The place changes

02

The mystery stays covered

The 2024 theme, La releve, or the next generation, reflected the festival's ongoing focus on cultivating new theatrical voices through residencies and mentorship rather than only staging finished productions

03

The city starts moving

Hosted inside a venue built for this kind of exchange, the Institut Francais du Congo offers a 480-seat theatre and a 100-seat conference room, and stages roughly 100 cultural events annually spanning rumba, rock, contemporary art, theatre and public debate, giving the storytelling festival a well-equipped home with an active surrounding cultural calendar
