The story

Mantsina sur Scene in Institut Francais/Salle Savorgnan

Mantsina sur Scene has run every December in Brazzaville since 2003, when the young artists of the Noe Culture collective built a pluridisciplinary showcase around the Institut Francais's Salle Savorgnan. Theatre anchors the program, but dance, music, cinema and visual art share the same nights, drawing companies from across the Francophone circuit. Workshops and discussions run alongside performances, keeping the festival as much about craft as spectacle.

Noe Culture, a collective of young Brazzaville artists, launched Mantsina sur Scene in 2003 to give contemporary performance a fixed home outside the capital's handful of formal stages.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

What sets Mantsina apart is its refusal to specialize in a single form: a single evening might move from a scripted play to a contemporary dance solo to a short film screening, all inside the same small venue

02

The mystery stays covered

Two decades of continuous editions have turned it into a fixture on the Francophone Central African touring circuit, pulling companies from Kinshasa, Yaounde and Paris into direct contact with Brazzaville audiences

03

The city starts moving

It began as an artist-led project, not a government initiative, which still shows in the informality between shows: performers and audience mix in the Institut Francais courtyard rather than retreating backstage

04

The water draws everyone in

Workshops for younger performers run in parallel with the evening program
