Feria del Libro El Heroe in Alajuela

Feria del Libro El Heroe, organized by the Museo Historico Cultural Juan Santamaria and the Municipality of Alajuela on the street outside the museum, brings together major Costa Rican publishers, author presentations, concerts, theater and reading workshops each spring, named for and historically anchored to Juan Santamaria's role in the 1856 Battle of Rivas.

Feria del Libro El Heroe is organized jointly by the Museo Historico Cultural Juan Santamaria and the Municipality of Alajuela, staged on the street directly in front of the museum and named for Juan Santamaria, the young drummer boy honored as a national hero for his role in the 1856 Battle of Rivas against William Walker's filibuster forces.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

This fair is directly tied to the historical anniversary of the Battle of Rivas and the museum dedicated to Juan Santamaria's story, giving it a specific commemorative anchor distinct from Costa Rica's more generically timed book fairs, and it gathers a notable concentration of the country's publishing houses, Editorial Costa Rica, UNED, UTN, Pua and H&H, in a single free, open-air street setting rather than a paid convention-center hall

02

The mystery stays covered

This concentration of publishers in one free street setting is uncommon among Costa Rica's smaller regional book fairs
