The story

Feria Internacional del Libro Costa Rica in San José

Feria Internacional del Libro de Costa Rica, running since 1997 as the country's founding edition of the regional FILCEN network, gathers publishers, authors and readers for roughly eight to nine days each year at the Costa Rica Convention Center, with recent editions marking milestone anniversaries in the country's own publishing industry.

Costa Rica's international book fair began in 1997 as the country's edition of FILCEN, a Central American book-fair initiative backed jointly by the book chambers of Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Panama and Costa Rica, and has run close to two dozen editions since, interrupted mainly by the Covid-19 pandemic and, in earlier years, by venue difficulties when the fair was staged at the old customs house, La Aduana.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

FILCR began the Central American FILCEN book-fair network in 1997, backed jointly by the book chambers of Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Panama and Costa Rica, giving it a documented founding role in regional Spanish-language publishing rather than standing alone as a national event

02

The mystery stays covered

Recent editions have used the fair to mark specific institutional milestones, one honoring 65 years of Editorial Costa Rica and 30 years of Libreria Internacional, layering publishing-history commemoration onto the standard mix of author talks, publisher stands and signings
