Festival de Muralismo San Jose in San José
San Jose's Festival de Muralismo is a municipal mural competition commissioning four new murals for named civic sites, the Central Market, Artisan Market, Carmen Lyra Library and Sion Building, with a formal inauguration scheduled as part of the Transitarte Summer Festival, distinct from the capital's older, organic graffiti districts such as Calle 17 behind the National Museum.
San Jose's municipal mural competition opened its call for entries from October 22 to November 16 to national and foreign artists, designers and interdisciplinary collectives with legal immigration status, commissioning four murals for painting during the summer of 2026 at specifically chosen sites: the Central Market, the Artisan Market, the Carmen Lyra Municipal Library in Pavas, and the Sion Building, a former seat of the Legislative Assembly.
