Festival Grano de Oro in San José
SINTERCAFE's Grano de Oro is a thirty-five-year-running juried painting competition devoted exclusively to coffee as subject matter, cultivation, processing, culture and social impact, that has produced more than seventy paintings from Costa Rican artists, translating the crop that funded the country's railroad and National Theater into a sustained body of fine art.
For thirty-five years, SINTERCAFE, the International Coffee Week Association founded as a non-profit in 1987, has run the Grano de Oro painting competition as a juried showcase devoted exclusively to coffee as subject matter, covering cultivation, production, industrial processing, commercialization, culture and the crop's social impact on Costa Rican life.
