Festival Iberoamerica Teatral Costa Rica in San José
Created by executive decree of Costa Rica's Ministry of Culture and Youth to guarantee its permanence, FITCR held its first edition from 10 to 19 April 2026, featuring more than twenty Ibero-American theatre productions across multiple San Jose venues plus a free formative agenda. The inaugural edition was dedicated to Chilean-born theatre educator Lucho Barahona, a central figure in Costa Rica's national theatre development.
The Festival Iberoamerica Teatral Costa Rica, abbreviated FITCR, is a genuinely new event created by executive decree of the Ministry of Culture and Youth specifically to guarantee its recurrence as a permanent annual platform for Ibero-American theatre, rather than launching as an informal one-off cultural initiative subject to discontinuation.
