MACA Festival y Escena Contemporanea brings contemporary dance out of theaters into San Jose's streets, plazas and parks, typically spanning multiple venues from Barrio Escalante to Desamparados with several evenings of performance, an international forum, workshops and scenic laboratories, backed by the Ibero-American Iberescena program with artists from countries such as Spain, Mexico, El Salvador, Panama and Italy.

MACA takes contemporary dance out of conventional theaters and into San Jose's streets and plazas, typically running for around two weeks each year with multiple evenings of performance spread across venues that have included Calle de la Amargura in San Pedro, the plaza of the Centro Cultural de Espana, Satis.Factory Casa de Arte in Barrio Escalante, the Anfiteatro Fidel Gamboa, Parque de la Democracia, the Taller Nacional de Danza, the Polideportivo Aranjuez and Parque La Libertad in Desamparados.
