The story

Festival du Livre d'Abidjan in Abidjan

Salon International du Livre d'Abidjan (SILA) is one of West Africa's biggest book trade fairs, founded in 1999 by the Association des Editeurs de Cote d'Ivoire (ASSEDI) and held at the Abidjan Exhibition Center. Its 2026 edition ran April 28 to May 2 under the theme Reading to Build, with Lebanon as guest of honour, featuring panels and exhibitions connecting authors, publishers and readers.

Each spring, the Abidjan Exhibition Center becomes the meeting point for West Africa's book industry as it hosts the Salon International du Livre d'Abidjan, known as SILA.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

SILA's scale sets it apart within West African publishing: founded in 1999 by ASSEDI, the association representing Cote d'Ivoire's publishers, it has grown into one of the region's biggest book trade fairs, giving it real weight as a commercial and cultural event rather than a small literary gathering

02

The mystery stays covered

Hosting a guest of honour country, such as Lebanon in the 2026 edition, gives the fair an international dimension, inviting cross-cultural literary exchange alongside its core mission of connecting Ivorian and regional authors, publishers and readers

03

The city starts moving

The 2026 theme, Reading to Build, reflects the fair's consistent framing of reading and publishing as tools for national and educational development rather than purely leisure pursuits
