Dubrovnik Summer Festival in Dubrovnik
The Dubrovnik Summer Festival, instituted in 1950, transforms more than seventy open-air venues across Dubrovnik's walled old town into stages for classical music, opera, theatre, and dance each year between July 10 and August 25. Fort Lovrijenac has hosted an annual Hamlet since 1952, one of the festival's signature traditions.
Fort Lovrijenac has staged Hamlet in nearly all seasons since 1952, when director Marko Fotez first used the seaside fortress as a backdrop for the play, cementing a pairing between Shakespeare's tragedy and this particular stretch of Dubrovnik's walls that the Dubrovnik Summer Festival has kept returning to ever since.
