Sudamja Festival and Feast of St Domnius in Split
Sudamja, held each 7 May, honors Saint Domnius, the martyred bishop whose relics rest in Split's cathedral, with a procession from the cathedral to the Riva waterfront followed by an open-air Mass, evening concert and fireworks marking the city's official day. The celebration is documented as far back as 1312.
Sudamja marks the feast day of Saint Domnius, a third-century bishop of Salona who was executed in that Roman provincial capital's amphitheatre in 304 AD alongside other Christians during a period of persecution.
