Festival del Monologo Latinoamericano in Cienfuegos
Founded in 2002 as a national biennial competition paired with the Premio Terry award, Cienfuegos's monologue festival opened to international competitors from its 2011 sixth edition, relaunching as the Latin American Monologue Festival. It has since drawn practitioners from across the Americas, Spain, Portugal and Italy, with up to twenty-seven foreign groups participating across its history, and one recent edition marked the historic Terry Theatre's hundred and thirty-fifth anniversary.
Cienfuegos's monologue festival began in 2002 as a national competition convened by the province's leading theatre institution and paired from the start with the Premio Terry award, running on a biennial cycle that initially restricted competition to Cuban companies even as foreign groups increasingly asked to attend, present work and exchange with Cuban artists outside formal competition.
