Festival Internacional de Cine de Gibara

Founded in April 2003 by filmmaker Humberto Solas around the concept of cine pobre, poor cinema made on budgets under three hundred thousand dollars, this festival turns the small coastal town of Gibara into an international film competition each year. Renamed after Solas following his 2008 death and briefly broadened under Jorge Perugorria, it later returned to its original Cine Pobre identity.
