Festival de la Salsa en Cuba in Havana
Created in 2016 by musician Maykel Blanco and grown from a modest start in Parque Almendares into an international event, Havana's Festival de la Salsa en Cuba reached its tenth edition in February with more than twenty orchestras performing across the city, dedicated that year to the seventieth anniversary of Orquesta Reve, framing the festival as Cuban popular music returning to its place of origin.
Musician Maykel Blanco created the Festival de la Salsa en Cuba in 2016 specifically to showcase good Cuban popular dance music from its place of origin with a contemporary perspective, starting modestly in Havana's Parque Almendares before growing into an international-scale event drawing thousands of visiting salseros from around the world.
