Festival Internacional de Poesia de La Habana in Havana
Founded around 1996 with backing from the Instituto Cubano del Libro, the Office of the Historian of Havana, UNEAC and the Proyecto Cultural Sur, the Festival Internacional de Poesia de La Habana coordinates readings across roughly sixty cities worldwide alongside its Havana programme. It is also a founding node in a continental network of poetry festivals alongside Caracas, Medellin and Puerto Rico.
The Festival Internacional de Poesia de La Habana grew out of a specific institutional alliance in the mid-1990s, backed jointly by the Instituto Cubano del Libro, the Office of the Historian of the City of Havana, the Union de Escritores y Artistas de Cuba and the Proyecto Cultural Sur, with most sources dating its founding to 1996.
