Semana de la Cultura Holguinera in Holguin
First held in 1983 to mark the 1772 anniversary of Holguin's designation as a city, this January culture week combines research workshops, concerts, amateur artist galas and the presentation of the city's own Premios de la Ciudad awards. Each edition is dedicated to specific individuals or institutions judged to have made a lasting contribution to the province's cultural development, giving it a rotating annual focus.
Holguin's Semana de la Cultura Holguinera was first celebrated in 1983 as a tribute to January 18, 1772, the date on which Holguin was granted the title of City and Tenencia de Gobierno by Spanish colonial authorities, and the week has run every January since, using that specific civic anniversary as its anchor rather than a generic cultural calendar slot.
