Semana de la Cultura Pinareña in Pinar del Rio
Growing out of the Dia de la Dignidad Pinarena, formally dated to 1943 municipal records, Pinar del Rio's culture week became an eight-day Jornada de la Cultura Pinarena from 2014, running through to December 3, Latin American Medicine Day. Recent editions under the slogan from tradition to contemporaneity have been dedicated to themes such as women's cultural contributions and the centenary of musician Nino Rivera, with institutions including UNEAC, the Provincial Museum and the Praga Cinema participating directly.
Pinar del Rio's culture week grew directly out of an older, narrower observance: the Dia de la Dignidad Pinarena, Pinar's Day of Dignity, whose roots trace to municipal council records from August 2, 1943, under the presidency of Tomas Calero Pino, legitimising the date as a formal civic occasion.
