Livadia Basketry Festival

Livadia's Festival of Basketry and Traditional Culture, now in its eleventh year, celebrates the village's UNESCO-recognised wicker and reed basket-weaving tradition, practised since the nineteenth century as one of only three Cypriot communities where the craft became a professional trade. Held at the square of Ayias Paraskeyis, the festival features live artisan demonstrations, other traditional rural crafts, and music from performer Vasiliki Hatjiadamou.

Livadia's basket weavers have practised their craft since the nineteenth century, one of only three Cypriot communities, alongside Mesogi and Liopetri, where wicker and reed basket-weaving developed as a genuine professional trade rather than a purely domestic skill, and in 2015 the village achieved formal recognition when its basketry and straw-mat weaving was registered on UNESCO's National Intangible Heritage List, an inscription marked by the simultaneous opening of a dedicated Basketry Museum preserving the craft's history and techniques.
