Pelendri Zivania Festival in Pelendri
Pelendri, one of three Pitsilia and Marathasa villages holding a dedicated Zivania Festival, hosts live distillation demonstrations of Cyprus's traditional grape spirit each November, paired with tastings of hiromeri, lountza and loukanika cured meats, guided tours of the village's ancient churches, and evening performances of the syrtos and zeibekiko traditional dances.
Zivania, Cyprus's own eau-de-vie distilled from the leftover skins and residue of crushed grapes, essentially the island's answer to Italian grappa, gets one of its three dedicated village celebrations in Pelendri, a Pitsilia settlement east of Mount Olympus long associated with the spirit's traditional production.
