Academia Film Olomouc in Olomouc
Academia Film Olomouc was established in 1966 by the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences, Short Film Prague and Palacky University, inspired by a science-film festival in Padua, Italy, and grew from a small academic gathering into what is now billed as the largest popular science film festival in Europe. Held each April, it draws on productions from broadcasters including the BBC, Discovery and PBS alongside podcasts and YouTube channels, reflecting six decades of evolving science communication.
Academia Film Olomouc was established in 1966 through a partnership between the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences, the Short Film Prague studio and Palacky University, inspired directly by an existing festival of didactic films held on a university campus in Padua, Italy.
