Academia Film Olomouc was established in 1966 by the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences, Short Film Prague and Palacky University, inspired by a science-film festival in Padua, Italy, and grew from a small academic gathering into what is now billed as the largest popular science film festival in Europe.
