The story

Designblok Prague in Prague

Designblok was founded in 1999, inspired by Milan Design Week, growing from fourteen participants in its first edition to around two hundred designers, studios and brands drawing up to fifty thousand visitors. Held each October, its six-day format opens with an industry-only Professionals' Day before five days of public exhibition, and it is now billed as the largest design and fashion exhibition in Central and Eastern Europe.

Designblok was founded in 1999, explicitly inspired by Milan Design Week, at a time when the Czech Republic had no comparable dedicated platform for showcasing new design work to an international audience.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Few Central European design events have sustained growth from fourteen founding participants to roughly two hundred and fifty thousand annual visitors across a quarter-century the way Designblok has, a trajectory that closely tracks the broader development of the Czech Republic's own design industry since 1999

02

The mystery stays covered

Its deliberate two-tier structure, a dedicated Professionals' Day followed by five days of public exhibition, lets the same body of new work serve both trade and general audiences without compromising either experience

03

The city starts moving

Being explicitly modelled on Milan Design Week but developing its own distinct scale and identity as the largest design and fashion exhibition in Central and Eastern Europe marks a clear regional leadership position rather than remaining a smaller imitation of its Western European inspiration
