Prague Easter Markets

Old Town Square's Easter market draws on the square's marketplace function dating to the tenth century, though its specifically religious Easter customs were banned under Communist rule and only fully restored after 1989. Around fifty decorated stalls now fill the square each spring with traditional Czech Easter goods, hand-painted eggs, willow whips and seasonal food, against the same Gothic Tyn Church backdrop as the square's larger winter Christmas market.

Old Town Square has functioned as a marketplace since the tenth century, with the first documented mentions of a central market there dating to the end of the eleventh century, giving Prague's Easter market a setting with genuine commercial continuity stretching back nearly a thousand years rather than a modern addition to a purely historic square.
