Signal Festival Prague in Prague
Signal Festival grew from a single 2010 video-mapping projection on Prague's astronomical clock into an annual four-night light-art festival running every October since 2013. Installations by Czech and international artists line set walking routes through central Prague and surrounding districts, drawing crowds that have grown from roughly 250,000 in year one to more than five million visitors across the festival's history.
Signal Festival grew out of a single video-mapping project: in 2010, the Czech art collective Macula and producer Martin Posta projected onto the facade of Prague's medieval astronomical clock to mark its six-hundredth anniversary, and the strength of the public response persuaded Posta, curator Jan Rolnik and Macula artist Amar Mulabegovic to spend roughly three years developing it into a dedicated annual festival.
