St. Matthew's Fair Prague in Prague
St. Matthew's Fair traces back to 1595, when a papal indulgence granted during Rudolf II's reign turned a pilgrimage to Prague's Church of St. Matthew into what is generally credited as the first spring fair in Prague and possibly Europe. After moving through several Prague locations, it settled permanently at the Holesovice exhibition grounds in 1963 and now runs each spring as a large amusement park with more than a hundred rides.
