Summer Film School traces back to a 1964 gathering of fewer than fifty Czech film-club enthusiasts in Cimelice, growing through Pisek before settling permanently in Uherske Hradiste in the early 1980s. Now the largest non-competition film event in the Czech Republic, it opened fully to the public in 1993 and draws thousands each summer for screenings, guest talks and retrospectives rather than juried awards.
